Land Trust announces free creative nature youth programs for summer 2025
Georges River Land Trust announces a slate of free outdoor youth programs this summer combining nature and art. These programs are held throughout the St. George River watershed, from Cushing to Searsmont. All programs are free and are designed for children and adults to enjoy together.
Wonder Walks are offered for children ages 0-5 and their caretaker. Programs are held June 6 - August 30, from 9 am-10am at Langlais Art Preserve in Cushing on Fridays and rotating Georges River Land Trust preserves on Saturdays.
Wonder Walks are a child-centered meander through the Langlais Art Preserve, as well as some of Georges River Land Trust’s other spacious trail systems from Appleton to South Thomaston. Rain or shine, each walk will offer new discoveries as the landscape shifts and evolves over the season. Staff will gently facilitate each walk, creating a safe environment for children and their caregivers to engage with trailside wonders. Children may choose to borrow a backpack containing simple tools to help them explore.
Art Adventures are offered for children ages 6 and up, and their caretaker. These programs are held June 25-August 31, from 10am-11:30am at Langlais Art Preserve in Cushing on Thursdays and Saturdays, and at Gibson Preserve in Searsmont on Wednesdays.
Art Adventures give kids the chance to learn about our local nature through art. Guided by award-winning art educator Alix Martin, each Art Adventure blends light hiking or outdoor exploration with a wildly creative project inspired by the preserve. Designed to engage kids and grown-ups alike—and to bring them together through making and learning—it’s a joyful way to spend a morning, side by side.
