Knox County Criminal Docket closed cases
ROCKLAND – The following cases were closed in Knox County Unified Court from Nov. 18-25.
Late entry: Andrew D. Edgcomb, 32, of Rockland, was placed on a deferred disposition for one year after he pleaded guilty to stalking with serious inconvenience and emotional distress, assault, two counts, and criminal mischief, two counts.
A plea agreement was reached between the district attorney’s office and defense and accepted by Justice Patrick Larson in Knox County Court Nov. 14.
Edgcomb was charged with placing his semen on a woman’s personal belongings while she was at work. He had also been investigated for throwing semen on the backs of women at stores, but no charges resulted from those incidents.
According to an affidavit filed by Rockland police in Knox County Court, a woman found a white substance on her water bottle at her office. She took the item to the Rockland Police Department on Feb. 23, 2023, and the substance was confirmed to be semen.
On March 8, 2023, the woman discovered semen on her personal bag with a stuffed animal, also located at her office.
Police interviewed her co-workers including Edgcomb who admitted to placing ejaculate on the woman’s belongings. He provided a DNA sample that was analyzed by the Maine State Police Crime Lab in Augusta.
Rockland police obtained an arrest warrant July 7, 2023, for Edgcomb after a lengthy investigation into several incidents that were reported earlier this year in Rockland. Police said that similar incidents involving Edgcomb also occurred in 2019 both in Rockland and Thomaston, but charges were never filed.
He was arrested in September 2023.
Based on the lab results, detectives were able to link Edgcomb to the February incidents in Rockland and the incidents reported to police that occurred in 2019 at the Thomaston Walmart and Rockland Hannaford.
Rockland police reviewed the police reports from Thomaston police that involved a Walmart employee. The woman said that Edgcomb followed her on multiple occasions in the store and threw something on her clothing twice which was determined to be semen after she provided her pants to police for DNA analysis.
The victim in the case from 2023 submitted a statement to the court and spoke against the deferred disposition for Edgcomb.
She said: “What happened is a gross violation of my person and space and needs to be treated as such. I was violated in a way that will remain with me forever.”
The conditions of the deferred disposition include a mental health evaluation and sex offender counseling and writing a letter of apology to the victim.
If Edgcomb meets the conditions of the deferred disposition he would be sentenced to 364 days in jail, all suspended, serve one year of probation and pay a $300 fine. If he violates the agreement then he will face an open plea on all of the charges.
