Knox County Commissioners hire new administrator

    ROCKLAND — The Knox County Commissioners have hired Richard "Lance" Govang, of  Boothbay, as their new County Administrator.
     
    The vote took place May 21, at a 2 p.m. meeting of the Commissioners.
     
    Commissioner Ed Glaser read the following:
     

    Knox County is happy to introduce our new Knox County Administrator, Lance Govang. Lance comes to us with over 30 years of leadership and supervisory experience in Community Management. His areas of expertise include Operations Management, Budget Plans, Business Development, Leadership, Client Relations, and Contract Negotiations.

    He is also active in his Boothbay community, including the YMCA and Boothbay Volunteer Fire Department. Lance will be relocating to Knox County to start his position with us. When he isn’t working, Lance enjoys Maine’s great outdoors and can usually be found kayaking. Lance will begin his employment with Knox County on May 27, 2024 and has a detailed schedule that will take him around all County departments in the first few weeks.

    Govang has until August 1 to relocate to Knox County, per the terms of a one-year contract signed at the meeting.
     
    His salary is to be $105,913 for 2024-2025.
     
    Gordan Page, of Owls Head, has been serving as interim administrator since the end of January, when former County Administrator Andy Hart resigned.
     

    Knox County comprises 18 municipalities, and that includes the islands of Isle au Haut, Matinicus, North Haven and Vinalhaven.
