The Knox Center and Quarry Hill have limited visitation at its long term care and assisted living facilities.

“We recognize that limiting visits has a significant impact on our residents and their families,” according to a news release from Pen Bay Medical Center. “Our medical leaders evaluated all of the guidance available and believe the best way to eliminate opportunities for infection and protect the health of our residents and team members is to implement this action.  We did not take this decision lightly, and we are eager to restore full visitation when it is safe to do so.

“MaineHealth hospitals are well-prepared for infectious disease outbreaks in the communities we serve. You can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 (also known as novel coronavirus) by staying informed and following these safety recommendations. COVID-19 is a new virus that causes flu-like symptoms. Most cases are mild to moderate. Older adults and people with pre-existing medical conditions, may experience more severe respiratory illness. Symptoms may include: fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath.

“If you feel you need medical attention, call your primary care provider before going to a healthcare facility.  If you do not have a primary care provider and need emergency care, call the emergency department before going to the ED.

“It is critical for all of us to choose reliable sources for the latest information. Both the Maine CDC and the U.S. CDC remain the best sources for up-to-date factual information about COVID-19, and we strongly recommend you visit their websites at: www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc and www.cdc.gov.”
