Juvenile is in custody after a shooting in Brooks leaves one man dead

    On Friday May 6, at approximately 9:11 a.m., the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at a residence on Littlefield Road in Brooks.

    Shortly after arriving the Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.

    State Police Detectives arrived on scene and are currently investigating the shooting as a suspicious death. The victim has been identified as the homeowner, James Cluney, 49, of Brooks.  

    Cluney will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy is expected to take place over the weekend.

    Sometime after the shooting a juvenile was arrested and charged with murder. He was transported to Long Creek Youth Development Center in Portland. 

    State police said they will not go into specifics about their relationship, “but we can confirm Cluney and the juvenile did know each other..” according to a May 6 news release from the Maine Dept. pf Public Safety.

    There is no danger to the public and the case remains under investigation, the release said.
