Just poking around: A mid-summer’s morning on Penobscot Bay

PENOBSCOT BAY – The course set from Camden, Rockland and Rockport harbors to Vinalhaven is probably the most well-trod marine path on Penobscot Bay, aside from Lincolnville to Islesboro. On a Friday morning, in late July, the breezes are generally light, and the seas calm. On July 23, that was exactly the case, as lobstermen were out tending their traps, some sailboats were getting underway, and at least one schooner was beating back toward Rockland. Just an average day on the bay. The same was holding on the island of Vinalhaven: People were working, or swimming at the Booth Quarry, or just poking around. A perfect Maine summer day....
