Jumpstart January 2025 at Camden Public Library








CAMDEN — The Camden Public Library’s annual Jumpstart January program series returns in 2025 for another lineup of workshops and programs designed to engage your creativity, teach new skills, nourish your mind and body, and spark inspiration for the new year.
Most Jumpstart January programs require pre-registration. Some events are free while others require a $10 materials fee to cover supplies and to help support the artists and instructors who teach these workshops. Visit librarycamden.org for more details and to sign up for programs.
Camden Public Library provides the following descriptions:
On Tuesday, January 7, at 4:30 p.m., artist Joelle Webber will lead a Paper Flower Sculpting workshop in person at the library. Using techniques including cupping, curling, scoring, spiraling, crimping and fringing, participants will create a paper bouquet of asters, daisies, poppies, roses, lilies, dandelions, cone flowers and more. Pre-registration and $10 material fee required. Materials and tools will be provided.
On Thursday, January 9, at 2 p.m., wellness coach Hester Kohl Brooks of Rest with Hester will lead a free, virtual "Rest in the New Year" session on Zoom. Yoga Nidra is an ancient form of meditation where the body hovers just above true sleep. As you follow prompts for breath sensing, body sensing and guided imagery, your body and mind receive much needed physical and mental rejuvenation, combining the benefits of meditation with the benefits of sleep. This rest practice will help you rejuvenate after the busy holiday season and start off the new year feeling well-rested.
On Thursday, January 9, at 6 p.m., the library's own Amy Hand will lead a Rubber Stamp Carving workshop in person at the library. Amy will teach you how to create your design, transfer it to your rubber and then learn carving techniques. Great for all levels and newbies. You will walk away with at least one completed carve and prints from the evening. Pre-registration and $10 material fee required. All supplies will be provided.
On Tuesday, January 14, at 6:30 p.m., Kaite Thayer of Thayer Treats will lead a free virtual Sugar Cookie Decorating workshop on Zoom. Learn how to decorate sugar cookies with royal icing from the expert herself. Participants will decorate penguin and snowflake sugar cookies. Kaite will also teach cookie and icing tips and tricks. Pre-registration is required. Visit librarycamden.org to sign up and for video instruction and recipes on how to make the cookies and royal icing ahead of time.
On Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m., Amy Hand will lead a fun Artist Trading Card (ATC) Make-And-Trade Workshop for adults in person at the library. Spend the afternoon creating with other artists from all over. We will paint, collage, draw, stamp, and more. You will be free to create at your own pace. You can bring your own supplies, or use the materials provided. A $10 material fee and pre-registration are required. No ATC experience is necessary.
On Thursday, January 23, at 6:30 p.m., author and wellness coach Tracey Gates will lead her free virtual workshop, “A Few Kind Words: The Power of Writing Unexpected Letters of Appreciation” on Zoom. Join for an evening of pure inspiration, storytelling, and thoughtful exercises to help you feel more connected, calm, and collaborative. Participants will have time to write unexpected letters of appreciation. Pre-registration is required.
On Tuesday, January 28, at 10 a.m. in the library, dance instructor Rita Swidrowski will lead her free popular Fitness Dancing for Seniors workshop. Rita will lead a variety of dances with cha-cha, twist, boogie, salsa, mambo steps and more to a variety of tunes. No dance experience is necessary, and steps are shown and cued. Repetition makes for easy following, and modifications are shown. Each person is encouraged to follow his or her own body’s needs and styles. Spaces are very limited and pre-registration is required.
