James R. "Jim" Gergely Sr., obituary
WALDOBORO — James R. "Jim" Gergely Sr., 72, of Waldoboro, passed away on March 3, 2017, at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport after a short illness. He was the loving husband of Sally (Genthner) Gergely, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.
Jim was born Oct. 28, 1944, in Trinidad, Colo., the son of the late John and Dorothy Gergely.
Jim attended Trinidad Catholic School in Colorado and earned his GED certificate in the Navy. He enlisted in 1962 and served on the destroyer USS Hugh Purvis.
In 1966, Jim married Sally Genthner of Waldoboro. He began working at General Dynamics in Quincy, Mass. In 1973, his family moved to Waldoboro, where he was a plumber at Jameson's Inc. for 37 years upon retirement.
Jim loved visiting his family in Colorado, and as a boy would visit his grandmother on the beautiful Prairie in Ludlow, Colo. He loved playing poker with his sons and traveling to casinos, where he was quite lucky at times.
He was a good friend and neighbor to everyone and would help out with plumbing, plowing or any other job that needed to be done.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Virginia and her husband, William Strong; his brother, Frank “Buddy”; his brother-in-law, John DeVey; and his sister-in-law, Sue Genthner.
In addition to his wife; he is survived by his sons, Jim and his wife, Trenia, of Waldoboro; Jeff and his companion, Reney, of South Carolina; and like a son, Steve Wright and his companion, Mary, of Vermont; his granddaughters, Heather Davis and her husband, Nate, of Vermont, Samantha Parker and her companion, Butch, of Friendship, and Melissa Parker of Rhode Island; his great-granddaughters, Brooklyn Smith and Aleah Davis of Vermont, and Lucy Waite of Friendship; his brother, John and his wife, Helen, of Arizona; his sister, Dorothy DeVey of Florida; and his sister-in-law, Marge Gergely of New York; as well as his wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends; and his beloved dog, Suzette.
There will be no services at this time.
