PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing bridge maintenance work on the southbound side of I-295 in Portland. This project involves the bridges that carry the interstate over Westbrook Street (at Exit 3) and Route 703 (Exit 1).

The first phase of work at Exit 3 is scheduled to begin on September 14. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during this phase.

The rest of the work at Exit 3 and all the work at Exit 1 will not begin until after the Columbus Day weekend, according to MDOT, in a news release. During this second phase, traffic will be reduced to one lane.

“All work will be finished by the end of the year,” said MDOT.

All I-295 exits will remain open during construction.

The contractor on this project is CPM Constructors of Freeport. The contract amount on this project is $799,365.
