The weekend of July 25 and 26 saw Midcoast air temperatures rising above 85 degrees, unsettling the atmosphere, and keeping Knox County Sheriff’s deputies on the move from one side of the county to the other.

Among the regular myriad of calls were a particular incident involving multiple minor crashes by one person. Another incident included a crowbar and has resulted in an ongoing investigation by the Major Crimes Unit.

In Warren, Sunday, July 26, at approximately 4 p.m., Knox Regional Communication Center received reports of a motor vehicle crashing into several different objects, in the area of the Yankee Traveler in Warren, and the driver allegedly attempting to flee the scene.

KCSO deputies arrived in the area and located the vehicle and the lone male occupant, George King, 60, of Warren.

“During the investigation, King presented signs of impaired driving and he was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquors or Drugs,” said KCSO Chief Deputy Patrick Polky.

King was reported to have no injuries but the vehicle had inoperable damage.

Waldoboro PD, Waldoboro EMS and Oyster River Towing assisted deputies.

In Appleton, on Saturday, July 25, a person was seriously injured following an altercation that involved the use of a crowbar.

At approximately 5:24 p.m., the Knox County Regional Communications Center received a report of a domestic disturbance on the Jones Hill Road, in Appleton. The report came from the resident, who admitted being in a fight.

Deputies arrived on scene and located James Flynn, 54, sitting, unarmed, on the front porch, according to KCSO Chief Deputy Patrick Polky.

Deputies and EMS found an injured person in the home with serious injuries; the victim was transported to a local medical center.

James Flynn was arrested and charged with Elevated Aggravated Assault.

“Although charges have been brought, the investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit,” said Polky.
