Hoof beats Mixed Media Equine Expressions" by Diana Gallant on display in Washington
WASHINGTON — The Gibbs Library holds its winter art exhibit running through the end of February, "Hoof beats Mixed Media Equine Expressions" by Diana Gallant.
A reception with light refreshments will be held Sunday, January 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.
"Can you feel the pulse of hooves echoing through the corridors of history?" said Gallant, in a Gibbs Library news release. "For centuries, horses have carried us across landscapes, not only physically but spiritually, bridging time and space. In the present, they continue to stir our hearts and minds, embodying ideals of freedom, wildness, and beauty. Through my work, I explore the horse as a powerful symbol—timeless and ever-present—representing the boundless energy of the natural world and the human spirit."
A native of Maine, Gallant has always been captivated by the rugged beauty of her surroundings, finding endless inspiration in the natural world through drawing and painting. Her passion for horses began in childhood and quickly became the central muse of her artistic journey. As her work evolved, she turned to mixed media to convey the horse’s essence through vibrant texture, color, and the layering of materials. Gallant’s process is intuitive, marked by bold splashes of color and energetic, deliberate marks, all while maintaining a deep connection to the spirit of the horse. The result is a dynamic, one-of-a-kind expression that blends abstraction and realism in powerful, emotional ways.
