TENANTS HARBOR — Jackson Memorial Library, in Tenants Harbor, will host a group exhibition of artworks by Abbie Read, Lesia Sochor and Margaret Rizzio. The show begins April 27 and runs through June 24.

Abbie Read makes mixed media art, currently focusing on abstract collage in the form of accordion books and small pamphlets. She lives and works in Appleton, on the Ridge. Her art has been exhibited throughout New England and internationally through the State Department’s Art in Embassies program in Doha, Qatar and currently in Hong Kong.

“Library,” a part of which will be on display at the library is an ongoing sculptural piece combining old books, constructed containers, found objects and artist made decorative papers. In its entirety, it is currently 40 feet long. A ten-foot-long section of it will be on display. Another 20-foot section is on display at the Mildred Stevens library in Appleton.

Lesia Sochor, of Brooks, has been a leader in the Belfast area art community for decades. She was a founding member of Artfellows and has taught art publicly and privately for over 30 years. Her Ukrainian heritage has spurred her interest in “pysanka” – the art of Ukrainian egg decoration, for which she has held numerous workshops throughout the state of Maine. Her work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout New England.

Sochor is exhibiting works from her “Repair” series. These works take a deep dive into the idea of repair and reuse through the image of ripped jeans. Mending becomes an intervention, not just to restore material things, but as an intention to repair the fractured parts of ourselves.

Artist Margaret Rizzio graduated from Bennington College in Vermont with a BA in visual arts followed by an MFA from Purchase College in New York. After finishing school, Rizzio returned home to Maine the place she was born, raised and has always loved. Rizzio uses a wide range of mediums, including collage and assemblage, to embrace the idea of feminism and the passage of time. She creates diverse pieces through colorful, multi-layered collages filled with coincidences and synchronistic repeating elements. She is represented by Dowling Walsh, Rockland, Maine.

All art sale proceeds benefit the library community programs.
