A Grinch Christmas for Rockland? Festival of Lights Parade sees green
ROCKLAND — To the delight of many, a friendly Grinch appeared several times, in several forms, during the 2024 Festival of Lights Parade in Rockland, Saturday, Nov. 30.
Parade spectators were also treated to start-time temperatures just under 40 degrees, and though temps fell toward freezing relatively quickly with the darkening skies, the lack of wind and precipitation allowed for a comfortable evening for most.
Among others, the Police, Fire, and Public Works departments added hometown municipal coverage to the event, while two local elemetary schools entered the annual float contest.
Main Street, from the Ferry Terminal to Pleasant Street, was closed for the event, allowing for parade participants to travel southbound along the northbound-only street.
The parade lasted approximately 30 to 40 minutes, and then, many of the families returned to Mildred Merrill Park at Rockland Harbor for selfies at the lighted Lobster Trap Tree as well as a few turns down the slide.
