CAMDEN — George Frederick Kenny, Sr., 82, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at his home in Camden.

George lived three distinctive lives in Camden, Buck Hill Falls, Pennsylvania, and Destin, Florida, where he was the common denominator for all of his family. George, Sr., Henry, “Grandad, G-Bird, and George were some of his nicknames. He had a dashing smile that melted hearts for generations.

George moved north to Camden, instead of south to Florida when he retired, as he loved the rugged coast, the fresh air, and the challenge of a new adventure. Maine was the physical manifestation of his character; rugged and charming in the same moment. His daily routines; the morning newspaper run, walking the harbor in Rockport and exploring Belfast, led to relationships throughout the Penobscot Bay area that were near and dear to him.

George’s time in Buck Hill Falls for Christmas and 4th of July holidays was about family. Bemused with how his clan had grown, especially his three grandchildren: William Kenny (The professor), Tyler Kenny (The Storyteller) and Maxwell Kenny (Mini G) and how everyone is in competition nightly at the dining room table to get a word in edgewise. The gang only gathers for a short period of time and everyone wants to lead the conversation wherever it may take us, talk faster. Walks, board games, parade festivities, Halloween costume adventures so many moments to cherish.

In Destin, Florida, George enjoyed the Emerald Coast, walks on the beach, worshiped the sun, loved to feel the sand between his toes, flying kites, visits from friends and family. A respite from the cold winter created a longing to return to those places the people he missed most.

The Kenny’s will celebrate his life by leading a 21 Kazoo salute for G-Bird every BHF 4th of July.

 The man, the myth and the legend will live on in our hearts.
