Gary L. Cross, 72, passed away peacefully, at home surrounded by family. He was born December 11, 1947 in Belfast, to Leonard E. Cross and Carrie (Mehuren) Cross.
Gary graduated from Belfast Area High School in 1966 and went on to EMVTI where he graduated in 1968.
He worked at Whitehead’s from 1968 to 1970 and then went to work for the family business, E.A. Cross & Sons, as a well driller until his retirement in 2009. He loved drilling wells and could tell you every well he drilled and the depth of each one.
In 1972, Gary married the love of his life, Michelle.
Gary was a master of many trades, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or fix. In his younger days he loved racing cars at Winterport Drag way, riding his Harley and rebuilding vehicles, such as his Jeeps and the Roadster.
His passion for vehicles is something he passed on to his children as well. He loved going 4-wheeling and snowmobiling with the kids and friends. One of his favorite past times was tinkering on his kids vehicles.
Family was the most important thing to Gary and no one was more special to him than his grandson, Carsen; they would often be found watching movies and teasing each other. He loved to watch movies with his family, even if it was Smokey and the Bandit for the 500th time. Back in the day, he was an excellent cook and would make up big meals for everyone, including the best lobster stew.
Gary loved the country and wildlife and was very proud of his home and having a well-manicured lawn. He enjoyed watching all of his birds come to the feeders and even recently made friends with the raccoon that stopped by every night.
Gary will be deeply missed by his wife, Michelle, his daughter, Megan, and her husband, Buddy; son Garret and fiancé’ Jen, grandson Carsen and step grandchildren, Tyler and Alexa.
Gary is also survived by his brother, Doug, and his wife, Lois, and five special nephews, as well many cousins and friends including his red-headed “daughter.”
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Raymond, his daughter, Kacy Lynn, and his in-laws, Leon adn Vianna Higgins. He is also predeceased by his grand dogs, Drake and Bailie.
At the request of the family, there will be no formal funeral services. A celebration of life will be held on September 13, 2020 at 1pm at the Belfast Shrine Club. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree or hang a bird feeder in Gary’s memory.
