ROCKPORT — Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Aldermere Farm welcomes the public for free Friday farm tours this summer, offering visitors a chance to explore one of the Midcoast’s historic saltwater farms, meet Aldermere’s iconic Belted Galloway cattle, and learn how agriculture and conservation come together on the preserve, according to MCHT, in a news release. Tours will be held July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, and August 21, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Led by Aldermere Farm staff and volunteer docents, the tours will begin in the barnyard at 20 Russell Avenue in Rockport. Participants will hear the story of the more than 200-year-old farm, which became a preserve of Maine Coast Heritage Trust in 1999, and learn about the people, programs, and 4-H youth who help care for the land and cattle today.
Aldermere beef and information about Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s educational agriculture programs at Aldermere Farm and nearby Erickson Fields Preserve will be available inside Aldermere Farm’s Welcome Center.
Admission is free, and donations are appreciated. Space is limited and pre-registration is required at aldermere.org/events/aldermere-farm-tour. Attendees should wear closed-toe shoes, leave pets at home, and ensure children are accompanied by an adult.
For more information, call 207-236-2739.
