Free Backpack and School Supply Program extends to Thorndike, Winterport
BELFAST — “It’s back-to-school season, and Waldo Community Action Partners wants to make sure your child kicks off the school year ready to learn!” said WCAP, in a news release.
Waldo CAP has expanded its annual Backpack and School Supply Program to offer giveaways at sites in Thorndike and Winterport, as well as Belfast. School supplies will be available free of charge to families living in Waldo County and receiving either MaineCare or WIC. Backpacks are prepackaged with a wide variety of age-appropriate supplies to accommodate the needs of students enrolled in Pre-K to 12th grade.
Pickups will be held throughout the month of August, with distribution events held on Tuesday, August 15, at Mount View Schools in Thorndike and Friday, August 18, at Leroy H Smith School in Winterport. Appointments can also be scheduled for pick up at the Waldo CAP office on 9 Field Street in Belfast the week of August 21- 25 or on Saturday, August 26.

You will need to bring your child’s MaineCare card or WIC information to the appointment for proof of income. Other forms of income verification may be accepted, please call ahead for more information. Applications should be returned by August 1 to secure your appointment.
