ROCKPORT — A free adult mental health first aid class is being offered Monday, June 17, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Pen Bay Medical Center Physicians Building, Conference Room C, 4 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport.

Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. MHFA helps people assist someone experiencing a crisis until professional assistance arrives or the crisis is resolved.

The course will teach you how to apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE):

 Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
 Listen nonjudgmentally.
 Give reassurance and information.
 Encourage appropriate professional help.
 Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
