Free Adult Mental Health First Aid class, Nov. 8
BELFAST — A free Adult Mental Health First Aid class will be held Friday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at MaineHealth Waldo Hospital Classroom, 118 Northport Ave, Belfast.
Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use challenge in adults ages 18 and over. MHFA teaches participants to assist someone experiencing a crisis until professional assistance arrives or the crisis is resolved.
Participants will learn how to apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE):
-Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
-Listen nonjudgmentally.
-Give reassurance and information.
-Encourage appropriate professional help.
-Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
