Frederick W. Palmer, obituary
BELFAST — Frederick W. Palmer, 80, of Searsmont, passed away Jan. 6, 2016, a few days before his 81st birthday on Jan. 13. He was the son of Frederick and Grace (Monahan) Palmer.
He attended St. Benedict's Preparatory School in Newark and then spent two years studying at Seton Hall University. He left his studies to join the Air Force, becoming an Airman 1st Class, and then married Bridget O'Farrell and they were stationed in Texas. After completing his four years in the Air Force, they moved back to Lake Shawnee, N.J., and raised five children. Frederick worked at IBM for 35 years, taking early retirement at 55.
Fred enjoyed the outdoors. He brought his family to Maine on a camping trip in 1969. They fell in love with the state and moved the family there in 1970.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Vincent Palmer. Frederick is survived by his five children, Larry Palmer of Thomaston, Elizabeth Herdrich of Searsmont, Cate Palmer of Seattle, Wash., Suzanne Sanzone of Fairfax, Va., and Margaret Palmer of Camden; his grandchildren, Petra, Lars, Hollis, William and Marissa; and Henry the Labrador.
A memorial service will be held privately.
