ROCKLAND — In a 3-2 vote announced by Rockland City Clerk Stuart Sylvester, Frank Isganitis has become the new mayor. The short meeting at City Hall, Monday evening, also saw two new city councilors sworn in.

Will Clayton and Valli Geiger were both elected in the Nov. 4 elections. They were sworn in before the mayoral vote.

Isganitis said it was exciting and challenging to be elected mayor.

Will Clayton said it felt good to be back and he was ready to jump into the budget for 2015-2015. He also thought Isganitis was a good choice for mayor.

“I love Frank, I’ve known him for quite a few years,” said Clayton. “We’re both friends in the hospitality industry as well. We all agree there is no divisiveness between the five of us and have had a great line of communication and that is one thing residents of Rockland should be thankful for and hopeful it will continue.”

Newly elected Geiger said of her first time on the Rockland City Council that she was thankful to be here.

“It’s a good city council, I like them all and I hope we continue to thrive,” she said. “The best part of the campaign was house parties and I would like to do a lot more of those. It was the most fun to sit in a room full of people who I didn't know and care about the city, and say lets talk.”

The council’s first order of business will be to interview candidates to fill the city manager’s position. Clayton said they are readying to interview six candidates Monday, Dec. 1, at the Samoset Resort.

Clayton is chairman of the search committee, which includes all standing city council members and former city councilor Eric Hebert. Clayton urged all city residents to reach out to the search committee and express their feelings about what they would like to see, or not see, in a city manager.
