CAMDEN — The First Congregational Church of Camden is prepared to kick off Pride Month with several special offerings on Sunday, June 2.

The Sunday morning worship service, which begins at 9:30 a.m., will welcome Rev. Ben Perry as guest preacher. Rev. Benjamin Perry (he/they) is the Creative Director at Garrett Seminary and a minister at Middle Church in New York City. An award-winning writer, he is the author of Cry, Baby: Why Our Tears Matter, and his work has been featured in The Atlantic, NPR, Slate, The Washington Post and more. He is also the editor of several queer photojournalism projects, and proudly lives in Camden, Maine.

On Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m., the Friends of Music Concert Series, an ongoing outreach program of the church, presents Bobby Jo Valentine in concert in the church sanctuary.

“Vaelntine’s guitar and ukulele accompany thoughtful lyrics about why we’re here, what makes us hopeful, and the everyday awakenings of an openhearted life,” said the Church, in a news release.

He is an explorative, hopeful, spiritual, queer artist who strives to make music and poetry that is good medicine for everyone.

Friends of Music concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are accepted at the door or online via the church website at www.camdenucc.org (click “donate” button and enter your desired donation into the “Friends of Music” account).
