Finding Hope in Our Climate Crisis lecture series begins with discussion with Maine Monitor
BELFAST — The Belfast Free Library will host “Finding Hope in Our Climate Crisis: a lecture series on Climate Change Solutions” beginning in September.
The first program in the series on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m., will be a panel discussion with reporters from the Maine Monitor on the topic Reporting on Resilience and Solutions in Maine’s Changing Climate. The program will take place in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library with a Zoom option. To register for the Zoom link go to https://belfastlibrary.org/events/ and find the listing for September 17. Or click here for the direct link.
The doom and gloom of climate change coverage can distract from the important work that’s already being done. Hear from reporters with The Maine Monitor, Maine’s only state-wide investigative nonprofit news outlet, about how The Maine Monitor covers the work Maine communities are doing to prepare for sea level rise and climate change-intensified natural disasters. Editor Kate Cough and reporters Emmett Gartner and Annie Ropeik will share their insights and how they approach environmental journalism, which appears in The Maine Monitor and in their weekly Climate Monitor newsletters.
The Finding Hope in Our Climate Crisis lecture series, presented by member organizations of the Waldo County Climate Action Coalition and the Belfast Free Library, will continue on Tuesday, October 1, at 6 p.m., with a discussion, “Water Quality and Climate Action in Waldo County” led by Joy Bowles, Jill Howles, and John Krueger.
