CAMDEN — The Camden Public Library’s Friday Film Club has selected the documentary “Angel Azul,” (2014, 1 hr 12 min) to watch and discuss as part of the library’s celebration of Maritime Month in April.

The film takes a look at one artist’s inspiring attempt to draw attention to the perilous situation coral reefs currently face worldwide.

“Angel Azul” explores the artistic journey of Jason deCaires Taylor, an innovative artist who combines creativity with an important environmental solution: the creation of artificial coral reefs from statues he’s cast from live models.

When algae overtake the reef, local experts and scientists are called in to explore the problem and solutions necessary to save the reef. Peter Coyote generously provides narration that leaves viewers pondering our connection to this valuable and beautiful ecosystem.

Visit librarycamden.org for more details about this program and a full list of all of the library’s Maritime Month events. Maritime Month is generously supported by Camden Riverhouse Hotel & Inn.

Email jpierce@librarycamden.org to request details about how to watch the film and to receive the Zoom link to join the discussion on April 15 at 4:00 p.m. The film should be viewed prior to the discussion.
