Evening Camden collision at busy intersection

CAMDEN — A two-car crash at the intersection of John Street, Route 1 and Camden Street clogged the main road for bit Wednesday around 6 p.m., but drivers nonetheless figured out how to get around the mess, steering around the crashed sedans, slowly sidling through the parking lot of the old McDucks, turning left onto John Street, and otherwise staying clear as first responders made their way to the scene.

The vehicles were incapacitated, with a front fender popping off, and air bags inflated in one of the cars. One person was transported by North East Mobile Health Services to the hospital.

According to Camden Police Chief Randy Gagne, the crash occurred when Judith Demott, 74, of Camden, attempted to turn left from John Street onto Elm Street (Route 1) but drove into the path of Rachel Alexandrou, 35, of Alna, who was driving south on Elm Street.

Alexandrou was unable to avoid Demott’s car, and struck it.

The crash remains under investigation by Camden Police Officer Kevin Littlefield.
