THOMASTON — Elizabeth Ann Carney Simms, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Penbay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born May 10, 1955 in Rockland to Malcolm and Anna (Mudryk) Carney, she was raised in Thomaston, educated in local schools, and graduated from Georges Valley High School as a member of the Class of 1973.

Following high school, she attended Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion in Lewiston and became a licensed cosmetologist.

For more than 45 years she stood behind the chair of her salon, “Elizabeth’s Cuts & Styles,” adding to the inner beauty of her clients. She listened, learned, shared the gift of laughter, and also shared in their joys and sorrows.

The Salon was added on to the house 32 years ago, so she was never far from her family. The shop was profiled by a porch on which many family, friends, and clients gathered. Many occasions were celebrated on this porch,
it was her favorite place to be. She enjoyed nothing more than to be with her family and friends, sharing the sound of laughter.

Predeceased by her father, she is survived by her mother, Anna M. Carney of Thomaston; her husband of 39 years, Jeffrey of Thomaston; her son, Garrett and his wife Amy of Thomaston; her daughter, Mallory King and
her husband Max of Thomaston; her brother James Carney and his wife Ruth of Thomaston; her brother, Craig Carney and his wife Linda of Gray; her grandchildren, Keegan, Nora, Madelyn, Shawn, Logan, and Erik; and
many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be scheduled in the spring and will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Elizabeth’s memory be made to Maine General Health to benefit the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, at, MaineGeneral Health, Office of Philanthropy, PO Box
