Edna Monhart, obituary
CAMDEN — Edna A. Monhart, 94 of Camden passed away March 18, 2017. She was born in Chicago, Ill., on March 25, 1922, to the late Mike and Josephine Kvidera.
One of Edna's fondest memories was working as a receptionist for Warner Bros. in Hollywood, Calif., during World War II. Her husband, Jim, was stationed there for training in the U.S. Army Air Corps' Motion Picture Unit. They particularly enjoyed dancing at the Hollywood Canteen in the evenings with many of the movie stars. Edna moved back to Chicago when the Army assigned Jim to the 15th Air Force in Europe.
Edna worked for many years in the Chicago area for the Oak Park Federal Savings & Loan and then for the Federal Home Loan Bank. She and Jim enjoyed vacationing in Maine and bought a home on Norton Pond in Lincolnville in 1968. They moved east in 1972. Edna worked in Framingham, Mass., as a medical assistant from 1973 until she retired in 1984 and then lived full time in Lincolnville. She was an avid reader of mysteries and loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. Edna loved dogs, and had a very special schnauzer friend, Murphy, who passed away last year.
Edna was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James; and by her siblings, Olga Sticha and Arthur Kvidera. Surviving are her daughter, Jane Monhart of Lincolnville; her son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Bonnie Monhart of Ada, Mich.; her grandchildren, Kristen Nelhart (Paul Nelhart) and Katie Monhart (Mathew Palas); and her great-grandchildren, Hudson Nelhart, Xander Nelhart, Parker Palas and Blake Palas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran Church in Rockport, officiated by the Rev. Bruce Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Edna's name to Lincolnville Community Library, 208 Main St., Lincolnville, ME 04849; and to the P.A.W.S Animal Adoption Center, 123 John St., Camden, ME 04843.
