Edith May Grant, obituary

ROCKPORT, formerly of BOOTHBAY  — Edith May (Hunt) Grant, 88, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 8, 2020 with family by her side.

Born May 14, 1932 in Thomaston to Lawrence William and Kathleen Stover Hunt, she was educated in local schools in Thomaston and was a graduate of Thomason High School Class of 1950.

During her life Edith worked for 23 years as the Floor Lady at the sewing factory, Schoolhouse Togs in both Rockport and Rockland. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), and
she also worked at Pendleton’s Market in Wiscasset for 5 years. Even after retiring she continued to work and her last job was at the Tugboat Inn in Boothbay Harbor in the laundry dept.

Edith was a member of the West Rockport Baptist Church. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed Stephen King, C.S. Lewis, Tim LaHaye & Jerry B. Jenkins, to name a few. She loved sewing and creating right up into her 80s, making sure that every family member had one of her beautiful quilts. She was a master at crossword puzzles, having pages of handwritten notes on difficult clues. Edith also loved to watch Jeopardy and enjoyed
trying to beat the contestants with the correct answers.

Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Russell V. Grant; and her sister, Bernice Dodge Oliver; she is survived by her sons, Richard Lane and his wife Karen of Rockport, and Stephen Lane and his wife Christine of Waldoboro; her daughter, Brenda Gould and David Gould of Appleton; her brother. Roger Hunt and his wife Juanita of Hope; 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

A private graveside service for Edith will be held later this month at the West Rockport Cemetery.
