Eagles' foul shot secures JV win over 'Jammers










ROCKPORT – The Camden Hills girls junior varsity basketball team hosted Lincoln Academy for an evening game that lasted almost two hours and came down to one foul shot made with 11 seconds left on the clock for Lincoln to pick up the 34-33 win.
This game could have gone either way if either team had done a better job from the foul line, combined the two teams were 21-48 from behind the charity stripe.
Amazingly, the game came down to making your foul shots and Kortney McKenna went to the line with 11 seconds left in the game with the score tied at 33.
McKenna missed the first one, but nailed the second and Camden Hills was not able to score and turned the ball over to give Lincoln Academy a hard fought win.
The two teams played to an 8-8 first quarter tie and Camden took a 20-18 lead into the half time. At the end of three, it was tied at 26 and the two teams battled to the end before the Eagles pulled it out.
Scoring for Lincoln Academy were Marta Berta with a game high 11 points, Julianna Lafrenaye eight; Makenna six; Khloe Poland and Isabelle Gilbert four each; and Arianna Gervais one.
The Eagles were 8-of-20 (40 percent) from the foul line.
For Camden Hills, Kelsie Merrill had six points; Malea Russell five; Audrey Clement and Tora Decker-Griffith four each; Laticia Billings and Emily Morse three each; Julia Holt, Myia Clement and Kira Barley two each; and Mallory Caron and Kendra Bergelin one each.
Camden Hills will travel to Thorndike to take on the Mount View girls Friday night while Lincoln Academy will play Oceanside Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at home.
