NOBLEBORO — Dwight David Simmons of Nobleboro and Waldoboro passed away Dec. 6, 2015, at Togus Springs after illness. Dwight was born Aug. 3, 1949, to Stephen P. Simmons and Evelyn F. (Richardson) Simmons of Nobleboro.

He attended local schools graduating from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle Class of 1967. In 1969 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He spent two years in Korea and two years in Germany.

After being honorably discharged he returned home and worked at Roy Stevens Garage in Damariscotta. He then began working for Hunt Brothers Lumber as a truck driver. He worked for Gordon Libby and a few others driving a log truck. His love of truck driving spurred him to start his own trucking business, Manktown Trucking, in 1992. He knew many people through the business and everyone knew the trademark colors of his truck.

Dwight was an avid storyteller and had a story for everyone. He will be remembered for his kind nature and willingness to help anyone in need. All you had to do was ask. He had a great love of family. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him just as he meant the world to them.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Ralph Simmons in 2001; and his beloved dog, Barney.

He is survived by his son, Dwight Monti and his wife, Michelle, of Waldoboro; his daughter, Sarah Lane and her husband, Danny, of Nobleboro; his sisters, Sharon Smith of Winthrop, Cindy Kelsey of South Bristol, and Carolyn (Kelly) Carroll of Jupiter, Fla.; his brothers, Stephen Simmons and his partner, Jean, of Waldoboro, and Malcolm and his wife, Linda, of Nobleboro; his grandchildren, William Monti and Brenden Lane of Nobleboro, and Jennifer Steele of Waldoboro; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. at Word of Life Church, 41 Old Route One in Waldoboro with the Rev. Tom Rawley officiating. A celebration of life gathering will be held at the American Legion, Wells Hussey Post, in Damariscotta. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Veterans Camp at Camp Kieve in Nobleboro.

Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine.
