Driver transported via LifeFlight following Rockport crash

    ROCKPORT — This morning, Nov. 13, the driver of a pickup veered off the road in Rockport and crashed head-on into a tree, prompting a call for LifeFlight for transport to a Bangor hospital.

    The crash occurred at approximately 7:43 a.m., when Jesse Sawyer, 37, who was traveling eastbound on Rockland Street in a 2017 GMC pickup, went off the road to the right and struck a large tree, according to a news release from the Rockport Police Department.

    He was transported to Knox County Regional Airport by North East Mobile Health Services and then airlift4ed from there to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by LifeFlight.

    Sawyer was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to Rockport Police.

    The crash remains under investigation by Rockport Police Sgt. James Moore.
