SEARSPORT — Dorothy Ada Thompson, 95, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her loving family, on December 7, 2020 at her home in Searsport.

Dot was born on December 1, 1925, in Waltham, Massachusetts. Her childhood was spent outside of Boston in many different towns. Dot attended The University of New Hampshire where she earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics. She was intelligent and had the privilege to work on the first computers at MIT.

In between teaching, she loved to go on adventures of hiking, camping, canoeing and road trips. One of her favorite memories of traveling was when she biked all over Europe on her 3-speed bike, wearing a skirt in the late 50s.

She married R. David Thompson, May 18, 1957. They moved to Maine and settled in the town of Morrill. Dot spent all of her time taking care of her five kids, gardening, teaching music, playing games, hiking and camping.

Dot loved the ocean, Thomas Kinkade pictures, puzzles, games and crossword puzzles. She loved music, singing in the choir and attending church. After the children grew up, she spent time helping people with taxes, traveling, dancing and visiting grandkids. Dorothy even biked in Ohio on a week-long bike trip when she was 67 years old. Dorothy was an inspiration to all of her kids. She taught them to love life, take advantage of opportunities and to cherish time with family.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Clarence Hamilton and Ada F. Hamilton (Welden), brother, Kenneth Hamilton and her great granddaughter, Miranda Kostusyk.

She is survived by her sons, Glen and his wife, Kathi, Donald, Andy; twin daughters, Kathy Strickland and husband Ken, and Beverly Kostusyk and husband Joseph; 12 grandchildren Audrey, Christina, Steven, Kathryn, Zac, Sammy, Trisha, Fiona, Megan, Michaela, Ben, Kendra; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A small memorial service was held last Thursday. The family thanks Kindred Hospice  for their compassionate care and support while Dorothy was home.
