Born in Rockland, November 30, 1938, she was the daughter of Norman P. and Ursala Reynolds Richards. She was educated in Rockland Schools.
She grew up in Rockland, got married and had three children. Later, after her first marriage ended in divorce, Doris married the love of her life, Walter Black, Sr., on May 29, 1971. Together she and Walter enjoyed 50 years of marriage.
Doris’ began employment at an early age working for F.J. O’Hara & Sons. Later in life she moved on and began as a cook at S.A.D. 5, retiring at age 62 and enjoying life with her family.
Always an active person, Doris enjoyed spending time with her dear friend, Margaret Guptill. Spending time on the ledges and even a helicopter ride were some of her fondest memories. She loved a good card game and somehow, she always managed to win. She never missed the opportunity to go for a car ride, whether just around town, or to Spruce Head Island to see the ocean, Doris was there.
A woman of deep faith, Doris looked forward to attending church each Sunday with her extended family. Praising the Lord, reading her Bible, and doing Bible word-search puzzles were things she kept close to her heart. She could often be found sitting quietly, listening to country music, tapping her hands along to the music. Doris was a fighter until the bitter end and will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
