APPLETON — Doreen Elaine Robbins, 59, passed away suddenly on her beloved family property in Burkettville on Saturday, May 23, 2020.

Doreen was born in Camden on April 28, 1961 to Ralph and Donna Thorndike. She attended Union schools and graduated from Medomak Valley High School as class vice president in 1979. She later attended Central Beauty School in Augusta and opened her home-based business, The Red Robin’s Beauty Shop, which she ran for 39 years.

Doreen was always an athlete. As a youth and through her high school years she ran cross country, was a cheerleader, and excelled in her premier sports of basketball and softball. Even after high school she stayed active playing in adult softball and candlepin bowling leagues. She was a force to be reckoned with on the bowling alley – she bowled various events in several leagues earning the title of state champion and receiving an invitation to the World Championships.

On May 16, 1981, she married Aldeverd L. Robbins on beautiful Sennebec Lake. The two built their lives in Burkettville, raising their two children, Toni-Lynn and Darren, and caring for their family pets and animals. They also spent several years making memories and life-long friendships “up to camp” in Greenville on Moosehead Lake. Al and Doreen had just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary days before she passed.

Doreen’s legacy is one of family and community. She loved deeply and unconditionally. She dutifully cared for her ill and aging parents, in-laws and family members. From the start, she chose to locate her business in her home so she could spend more time with family.

Doreen attended every school function and sports event her children (and later her grandchildren) ever participated in. In addition to her fierce love for Toni-Lynn and Darren, she found room in her heart to love more children like her own. Many of these kids played on the various youth sports teams she coached in cross country, girls and boys basketball, baseball and softball at all levels. She ended her coaching career as the varsity girls basketball coach at Camden Hills Regional High School.

In recent years she has spent her time doting on her young grandchildren and family pets/animals. They were the light of her life, and she was theirs. They shared so many memories from family days spent at the lake to Florida vacations where she got to watch her beloved Boston Red Sox play in spring training games.

Doreen is survived by her husband of 39 years, Al; their beloved children, Toni-Lynn Robbins Hansen, her husband, Carl, and their daughters Colbi Elaine and Taylor Lynn of Carlisle, Massachusetts; and Darren Allen Robbins, his fiancé, Jennessa Tyler, and their children, Marina Louise and Cole Amon of Rockport; mother, Donna Jennie Thorndike of Union; brother, Jeffrey Thorndike and his partner Kelly Lewicki of Morrill; sister, Jill Dudding of Amarillo, Texas; and nieces and nephews Jenny, Josh, Megan, Harry, Ann and Rachel.

She was predeceased by her father, Ralph William Thorndike; and father- and mother-in-laws, Aldeverd M. and Louise Robbins.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, June 12, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hall’s Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Special measures will be taken to adhere to social gathering guidelines. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton.
