LINCOLNVILLE — David Reino Masalin, age 89, died Saturday, May 20, 2023, in Camden. David was born in Camden on November 7, 1933, at the old Camden Hospital on Mountain Street, and was the son of Ossian Reino and Lucille (Carver) Masalin.

David attended the Youngtown School house in Lincolnville, and later graduated from Portland High School, the Class of 1950. He enlisted and served in the USAF from 1954-1957 and was stationed in Alaska. In the U.S. Air Force, he was a skilled heating ventilation and air conditioning technician.

On February 9, 1955, he married Harriet L. McFarland, a daughter of Franklin H. and Emma Warren McFarland, at the First Congregational Church in Portland. Harriet died on April 22, 2022 after 67 years of marriage.   Together they raised 3 sons, Keith, Wayne and Scott.

For the next 48 years he lived and  worked in the greater Portland area where he did contract HVAC work and was employed for 19 years at Ballard Oil Company and, 10 years at Portland Air Conditioning.

David and Harriet retired to his parents’ home in Lincolnville where the enjoyed many hours exploring Maine, metal detecting, and dining out. They lived next door to his sister, Joanne Ratliff, and his late Aunt Doris Delano. They particularly enjoyed several cruises to a number of destinations with his Aunt and Uncle Barbara and Jim Carver of Hope and Linda and Chris Pearse also of Hope. His favorite cruise was to Alaska where he was able to revisit many of the places he had seen during his Air Force tour.

David was a proud member of the American Legion Post 30 in Camden, where Memorial gifts may be made in his name to: American Legion Post, PO Box 187, Camden, Maine 04843.

Harriet died on April 22, 2022 after 67 years of marriage. Together they raised 3 sons, Keith born 1955 - died 2021, Wayne born 1957, and Scott born 1960.

He is predeceased by his wife, Harriette Masalin; son Keith Masalin; and sister, Joanne Ratliffe.

David is survived by sons Wayne Masalin of Raymond, Scott Masalin and his wife Kathy of Rye, New York; granddaughters, Nicole, Ashley and Claire; grandsons, Andrew and Daniel Masalin; and several great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 1 p.m., at the Maplewood Cemetery in Lincolnville with the Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet officiating. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com.
