Craignair Inn’s Brenda Fournier earns management certificate from Cornell University

SPRUCE HEAD — Hospitality Manager Brenda Fournier has completed the Leading a Culture of Service Excellence certificate program from Cornell University through their eCornell Online Program, sponsored by the New England Inns & Resorts Association.

“Brenda is already implementing ideas and activations learned during this rigorous professional development course,” said The Craignair Inn by the Sea and Causeway Restaurant, in a news release.

Fournier was named Hospitality Manager in spring of 2023.

Fournier is essential to the Craidnair, according to The Craignair owners and innkeepers Greg and Lauren Soutiea. Because they trust her to keep the restaurant operating smoothly, they are free to pursue community advancement projects and assume leadership roles on various local nonprofits, “though Greg is perhaps happiest chopping wood for the fire or discussing rare and premium whiskey behind the bar,” said the release.

Fournier’s history is indistinguishable from the story of the Craignair Inn and Clark Island Road. Her grandmother was the island caretaker and Fournier grew up playing and working by her side. She married her childhood sweetheart, who was the boy next year, and together they raised a family there; two adult daughters have left the nest and are flying spectacularly. Fournier was a school administrator for many years when her girls were young, but has always had a particular passion and knack for hospitality.

Fournier still loves to spend her mornings walking down to Clark Island Preserve, exploring the beaches and trails. Her co-workers and restaurant guests at The Causeway all concur that she is friendly, lovely, and supportive. She advocates for The Causeway’s servers and bartenders and acts as an intermediary between front of the house staff and the kitchen crew. She collaborates with customers to provide them with a personalized dining experience, organizes private events, and keeps all functions running smoothly.

“Her sweet demeanor and attention to detail are assets beyond measure, always keeping the business on course, and striving for improvement,” said the Craignair. “She makes every person she encounters feel welcome and seen.”
