Couple accused of leaving Rockport motel without paying large bill
ROCKPORT — A couple accused by police of leaving a motel without paying over $1,000 in their bill were arrested April 1 and charged with theft.
Sheldon Curtis, 30, of Rockport and Amanda Doubleday, 28, of Rockland, were both charged by Rockport Police with felony theft.
Curtis made his initial appearance April 3 in Knox County Unified Court where his bail was set at $1,000 cash. He remains in the Knox County Jail as of April 5. Curtis had a previous conviction of theft in 2013 and burglary of a motor vehicle in 2012.
Doubleday was released from jail April 1, the same day as her arrest, on $1,000 bail.
According to the police affidavit filed by Rockport Police officer Jim Moore, he was contacted by personnel at the Seven Mountains Motel on Route 1 about a couple who allegedly left without paying their bill of $1,064.
Police located the couple at another motel in Rockport and interviewed them about the alleged theft.
Curtis told police that he planned on making payments on the bill this summer when he began fishing again, according to the affidavit.
Moore was assisted by Rockport Officer Chris Taylor and Camden Police officers Sam Butler and Tim Davis.
Curtis will appear again in Knox County Unified Court on June 1.
