ROCKPORT — Cabin fever setting in? Looking for a sweet pick-me-up? During the month of March, Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) invites all ages to try out making maple syrup from scratch (i.e. sap) at Aldermere Farm, 70 Russell Ave, in Rockport.

Individuals may schedule times to join MCHT Farm Manager Aaron Englander in the sugaring process – identifying and tapping sugar maples, hauling buckets of sap, tending the evaporator, and tasting the final product.

“Thanks to the generosity of Rockport Steel, the evaporator in Aldermere Farm’s sugar shack is sporting a new steel hood,” said MCHT, in a news release.

MCHT’s Community Maple Sugaring Program is geared to individuals interested in the hands-on experience of making their own bottle of syrup from start to finish. All levels of experience are welcome.

This program is free and open to the public.

Sap flow is weather dependent.

Early registration is recommended. To schedule times to participate, email aldermere@mcht.org or call 207-236-2739.
