UNION — Christine R. Savage, our Mom, passed away at the age of 91 on the night of May 12, 2023 after a long and full life. She lived, with her family, in three towns: Union, Searsport and Camden. She made a difference in each of these towns, making friends, volunteering, and working while raising her family.

In 1974 the family moved to Camden and Mom’s public service began. She served as town manager in Warren as well as interim town manager in Camden and Union. She mentored more than one current town manager and is still spoken of highly in each town she worked. After municipal work she moved on to State government serving six years in the Maine House of Representatives and eight in the Maine Senate. To call her a public servant is very much an understatement.

She retired to her home on Barrett Hill and enjoyed the view and the sunsets. She always looked forward to the return of the hummingbirds each year. She always thanked people for anything they did for her, including us. She was loving and kind. She made a difference in many people’s lives especially in the lives of her family. She spent her last year and a half at Bartlett Woods where she was cared for by a loving staff. We would like to thank them for their caring.

Mom was predeceased by our father, Elmer “Bud” Savage. She also was predeceased by four brothers and one sister all of whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra and her partner Barry, Althea and her husband Mike, Gloria and her husband Wayne; a son, Elmer and his wife Holly; six grandchildren, Chad Stafford, Ty Butcher, Bethany Wiley, Matthew Wiley, Jacob Savage, Caleb Savage; 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She loved them all intensely.

Services will be held Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., at the People’s Methodist Church, 31 Depot Street, Union. A celebration of life will be held that same day, at 3 p.m., at the Union Fairgrounds.
