Chip Curry knows what he's doing, and he is doing it for his constituents
When Senator Chip Curry came to my committee, the Energy, Utilities, and Technology Committee, to address his bill we were hearing last winter, he came because his bill was to address an important issue for his constituents.
The bill dealt with a transmission line that would bring wind energy from Aroostook County to meet other transmission lines in the south. It was needed to bring clean, renewable energy to the Northeast and Maine. However, the problem was that the transmission line would go through farmland, especially in Waldo County, Chip's and my county.
The Senator immediately reached out to the upset landowners who were worried that the group working on the line could use eminent domain to take their land. Some of the landowners opposed wind energy, but many understood the need for new energy sources and wanted the transmission line to use existing corridors and underground lines.
It was an emotional first meeting. Senator Curry immediately formed a working group to address the issue. Some legislators politicized the issue for their own benefit, but Chip wanted to find a way forward.
Because we had a short legislative session, he had to move fast in meeting with the landowners in the working group and he came up with answers.
I am going to vote for Chip because I saw him work on a problem, come up with solutions, and consider all points of view.
This man knows what he's doing, and he is doing it for his constituents.
