She was born March 21, 1944, in Springfield, Mass., to George and Charlotte Webster Headley. Upon her graduation from Vinalhaven High School in 1962, she married Abbott George Martin and had two children, Daniel Abbott and Milsue Anna.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter of Vinalhaven as well as a member of the Vinalhaven VFW Auxiliary. For many years, she drove a school bus for the Vinalhaven School District. She sold her home in Falmouth and moved to Buxton to be closer to her daughter Milsue and her family. After retirement, Cheryl enjoyed many summer evenings of camping and reconnecting with friends at Sennebec Lake Campground in Appleton, Maine. She spent a few winters in Port Richey, Fla., escaping the cold and winter snow, with many of her Vinalhaven friends.
Cheryl enjoyed painting and reading, and often swapped romance novels with many of her family and friends. In addition to her children, her beautiful granddaughters, Cassandra, Christine, Charlotte and Sydney were her pride and joy. She was lucky to have Charlotte and Sydney right next door to keep her thoroughly entertained.
Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, George and Charlotte; her partner, Richard Lewis; and recently her daughter-in-law, Kristen Dirrigl-Martin.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Abbott Martin and his wife, Jessica, of Vinalhaven; her daughter, Milsue Martin of Buxton; and her stepchildren, Scott and his wife, Elisabeth Lewis, of South Portland, and Kathy Lewis of Cumberland; her granddaughters, Cassandra and her husband, Earl, of Vinalhaven, Christine of Vinalhaven, and Charlotte and Sydney of Buxton; her step-grandchildren, Paige and Max Richardson of Cumberland, and William Lewis of South Portland; her brother, Howard Headley of Texas; her sisters, Patricia Headley of Florida, and Jacqueline and her husband, Frank Jakubowski, of Connecticut; and her brothers Don and his wife, Virginia Headley, of Florida, and Larry Coombs of Vinalhaven; as well as several nieces and nephews.
