Charlene Ludwig Moody, 80, passed away peacefully from complication of dementia on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

Charlene was the daughter of Charles and Lois Ludwig of Washington, Maine. Charlene spent much of her childhood with her grandparents, Burleigh and Lula Turner, on their farm in South Liberty. She always spoke fondly of that time of her life.

Charlene went to a one room schoolhouse in Washington where her grandmother, Gertrude Ludwig, was the school teacher. She would often stay after school to help her grandmother fill the wood stove and walk home with her. She attended high school in Union, Maine.

Charlene married Ronald Moody of Appleton, Maine, and they settled into a home in Washington Village where they raised three children. Children from the village often gathered on the Moody lawn to play softball or hide-and-seek at night. Charlene was involved in many local organizations including being a founding member of the Washington Hill and Gully Riders Snowmobile Club.

Charlene loved to cook and garden. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time at the camp she and her husband, Ronald, built on Washington Pond. She loved hosting gatherings for family and friends. Many a great time was had at camp! Charlene also loved holidays. She celebrated every holiday by decorating her home and cooking meals for her family. She especially loved Halloween, she would decorate the house and pack more than 100 bags of candy for all the trick-or-treaters, often dressing in a costume to greet the children.

Charlene was known for her happy disposition and her spunky nature, right up to the end of her life she dressed very stylishly and never left the house without a necklace, sunglasses that matched her outfit and lipstick. She loved clothes and liked to dress in the latest fashions. No old lady clothes for her!

Known as Nana by her grandchildren who she loved dearly, she took great pride in their accomplishments. She also loved to embarrass them with stories and jokes.

Charlene lived most of her life in Washington, but also lived in Camden and Belfast where she made many friends.

She was preceded by her husband, Ronald; her brother, Stephen Ludwig of Gray, Maine; and many other wonderful family and friends.

Charlene is survived by her daughter Rosemary and her husband Jimmy Plourde of Millinocket, Maine; her daughter Roxanne Eggen and her husband Fred; her son, Alan Moody and his wife Kathy of Whitefield, New Hampshire; her grandchildren Holly Millay Benedict of Texas, Joseph Moody of Hope, George Millay of Windsor, Melinda Eggen Ferrazza of Rockport, Kimberly Eggen Ward of Thorndike, Amie Wyman Misch of Texas and Nate Wyman of Jefferson; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sister-in-laws Vanessa Moody Graves of Rockport and Janice Ludwig of Gray; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlene’s spirit and love will be greatly missed!

A celebration of Charlene’s life will be held later in the summer at her beloved camp in Washington.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Hall’s Funeral Home in Waldoboro, Maine.
