Cause of fatal fire in Somerville remains undetermined
A team of investigators from the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office responded to a house fire at 471 Crummett Mountain Road in Somerville this morning, Oct. 30, according to a news release from the Maine Office of Public Safety.
While investigating the fire scene, they located human remains. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) will be examining the remains Oct. 31, the release said.
Investigators will be working with the OCME to identify the remains. It is believed the deceased is 72-year-old Ian Baston, who lived alone at the residence, the release said.
The fire was discovered this morning by some hunters who were in the area and saw smoke. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
Somerville, Jefferson, Windsor, Washington and Chelsea Fire Departments responded to the fire.
