FARMINGDALE — Catherine A. Keiran, 65, of Farmingdale, Maine died unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 31, 2021, at the Captain Lewis Residence, in Farmingdale.

She was born in Norwood, Massachusetts, on November 5, 1956, the daughter of Richard J. and Madolyn E. (Hawes) Keiran.

After graduating from Needham High School in 1975, Cathy enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Frankfurt Germany as a Communications Specialist. She worked in technology most of her career before retiring early due to failing health.

Her greatest source of pride and joy was her son, Jeremy Andrew Keiran, who was tragically lost in a skiing accident in March of 2019.

Growing up Cathy enjoyed time spent with family, and especially took pride in her connection to Union, Maine, and of her being part of the 8th generation associated with the Hawes Family Farm. She and Jeremy rarely missed the annual family reunion and she built her dream house down the road from the farm overlooking Seven Tree Pond. While living in Union, Cathy became active in the United Methodist Church and volunteered in various roles at the Union Fair and in helping “cousin Irene” at the Mathews Museum.

After years of declining health, in 2016 Cathy moved into the Captain Lewis Residence Facility in Farmington, and lived there until her passing. This was a perfect fit for Cathy as the staff became her extended family. They actively engaged her in the day-to-day ongoings of the facility and she enjoyed a quality of life that would have been otherwise unavailable for her. The Keiran family expresses their utmost admiration and appreciation to Kim and her entire staff for everything they did.

Cathy was predeceased by her parents, Richard J. and Madolyn E. (Hawes) Keiran, and son Jeremy A Keiran.

She is survived by brother Steven P. and wife Margaret R. of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; brother Kenneth J. and wife Deborah A. of Union; niece Kristen; nephew Jacob; and nephew Isaac and Fiancé Halsey (Yattaw).

Cathy is also survived by numerous cousins and extended family.

Cathy will be interred at the family burial plot in Needham and a memorial at the graveside will be held in the Spring.

Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine.
