CAMDEN — Jill and Ted Hugger, owners of the Cod Cove Inn in Edgecomb, completed the purchase of the 37-room Cedar Crest Inn from Bill Hahn and Stephen Liberty February 27. The Cedar Crest Inn, on Elm Street (U.S. Route 1) at the gateway to Camden, has served the traveling public since 1918.

"We are proud to become the innkeepers of the Cedar Crest Inn," said Ted Hugger, in a news release. "Under Bill and Stephen's leadership, the inn has earned a solid reputation among travelers to the mid-coast region. We're anxious to continue that tradition by providing exceptional service and a memorable visiting experience."

"Since acquiring the Cod Cove Inn in 2013, our goal has been to provide welcoming, comfortable accommodations to guests traveling Maine,” he said. “The Cedar Crest is a perfect match for our Edgecomb property. Many of our Cod Cove Inn guests explore the Boothbay Peninsula for a few days and then continue on to the Camden area. The Cedar Crest Inn will allow us to offer two-inn accommodation packages as they travel the Midcoast.”

The Cedar Crest Inn features three acres of landscaped grounds that include a heated outdoor swimming pool, playground area and gardens. In addition to the Inn's 37 rooms, the property also includes the HorseFeather Grille restaurant.

"Stephen Liberty and I purchased the Cedar Crest from George and Gypsy Underhill in 2000," Bill Hahn said, in the release. "It had been in their family for some 40 years and has now been a lodging property for nearly 100 years. We were attracted to the Cedar Crest as a business opportunity, but also because of the quality of care the Underhills had given the property. Our model was to continue to provide comfortable, affordable, accommodations for travelers visiting our beautiful coastal town. We are pleased to pass it to the Huggers, as we know they will be stewards for the property who will continue the Cedar Crest tradition of providing great experiences to visitors for years to come."

The Huggers provide hospitality and marketing experience to the inn. Jill Hugger, a 25-year hospitality industry veteran, served as general manager of the Meadowmere Resort, a 144-room full-service property in Ogunquit.

Prior to that, she was employed for 15 years at the 95-room Portland Regency Hotel and Spa, where she was also general manager. Ted Hugger has 30 years of experience in business development, branding, marketing and event management, and for 18 years, owned and operated an advertising agency and a tradeshow development company in Portland.
