CAMDEN — Camden Rotary Club has welcomed Chris Richmond as its new president.

Once a schooner captain, Richmond is now a commercial marine insurance agent at Allen Insurance and Financial. He joined Camden Rotary in 2012 and has held office as the club's service projects director and chair of youth and international services. He has also served as liaison with the Midcoast Interact Club, a Rotary organization for teens.   

Born in Harvard, Massachusetts, Richmond graduated from American University and The Landing School of Boat Building and Design, where he has served on the program advisory board.

Richmond is currently on the Maine Marine Trades Association board of directors.

The Camden Rotary Club has served the community since 1925, raising funds to help local nonprofit organizations and providing volunteer services. Since 2011, the club has invested $238,000 in the community via its grants to nonprofit organizations in Knox County and Lincolnville.

In addition to awarding charitable grants each year, the club deployed an emergency task force this spring to help nonprofit organizations in Knox County and Lincolnville that are most directly impacted by the pandemic. These emergency grants support non-medical services directly related to the economic and human impacts of COVID-19. 

The club has also invested in local students by awarding $149,000 in scholarships since 2017.   

Club members assist a variety of organizations, including MCH Meals on Wheels, the Camden Public Library Harbor Arts & Book Fair, and Keep Rockport Beautiful. The club's annual Music by Sea celebration, canceled this year due to COVID-19, brings live bands, townspeople, and tourists to the Library Amphitheatre and Harbor Park to celebrate Independence Day.
