Camden-Rockport third graders focus on Rockport lime kiln history

In October, the third graders at Camden-Rockport Elementary School spent time at Rockport Harbor, getting acquainted first hand with the Rockport’s illustrious place in local and national history.
Two months later, they had carefully finished documenting their studies of the lime industry, the history of quarries, the kilns and the Rockport locomotive in a series of posters. They visited the lime tailings, and followed the path of the Rockport locomotive to the kilns, all the while, and with the guidance of Marlene Hall, understanding more the importance of preserving local history.
The students then presented their work Dec. 10 to Rockport Town Manager Jon Duke, who visited CRES for the ceremony. He thanked the students for their posters, which will be on exhibit at the Rockport Town Office.
