CAMDEN — The downtown Camden Opera House will offer a Summer Theater Camp, Monday through Saturday, July 10-15, for children who will enter first through 12th grade in the fall. Registration will open 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10.

The nonprofit Missoula Children’s Theatre will lead this week-long workshop that culminates in a public performance of “Beauty Lou and the Country Beast,” a fun show with music, sets, costumes, makeup and a cast of local students. Space is limited and registration is by age groups, due to casting constraints.

Missoula Children's Theatre is the nation’s largest touring children’s theater; its mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts. The MCT tour team will arrive with everything it takes to put on a play – except the cast.

The team holds an open audition Monday and casts up to 50 campers to perform in the production, which is rehearsed throughout the week and presented on Saturday. There also will be three workshops offered during camp week. Local educator and pianist Joani Mitchell will be the camp accompanist.

Thanks to support from the opera house’s Community Arts Fund, the fee will be $100 per child. Parents/guardians are urged to read the camp policy document on camdenoperahouse.com before registering. Registration is online, via the website’s Events listings.
