Camden Hills girls soccer looks to three-peat as state champs

ROCKPORT — It’s a brand new season for the Camden Hills varsity girls soccer team and like any other team, hoisting up a state championship trophy is the end goal.

But for the Windjammers, that vision is a little bit clearer, considering they have claimed the past two Class A state championships.

In preparation for the upcoming season, the Penobscot Bay Pilot asked the Camden Hills head coach, Meredith Messer, to provide us with a little insight on how the team is shaping up.

“This group of girls love to play hard,” said Messer. “They challenge themselves to get better everyday. Fans can expect to see a fast, unselfish style of play.”

This year, the roster will include Anya Babb-Brott (sophomore), Julia Benson (freshman), Kimberly Billings (sophomore), Grace Blackwell (senior), Caroline Contento (sophomore), Eliana Cortese (freshman), Allison Gill (freshman), Eve Gutheinz (senior), Ryan Hart (senior), Lexi Heidorn (sophomore), Kristina Kelly (junior), Kassandra Krul (senior), Kaylyn Krul (junior), Isabelle Lang (senior), Ivy Merriam (freshman), Kendra Merrill (sophomore), Emma Mitchell (junior), Frances Ostensen (junior), Ella Pierce (junior), Marykate Pons (sophomore), Ella Powers (freshman), Eliza Roy (senior), Alison Saucier (freshman), Lauren Schenk (freshman), Emily Snyder (freshman), Alexandra Southworth (sophomore), Sarah Spizzuoco (senior), Alexandra Tassoni (freshman), Felicity Whalen (freshman), Tessa Whitley (freshman), Emie Wood (junior), Kasey Wood (junior) and Grace Wrona (senior).

Asked to name a few players fans should keep an eye on, Messer listed Kassie Krul (a “midfielder who is sure to anchor our team”) in addition to Kelly, Pierce and Roy, who return as starting offensive line. On the defensive front, fullback Blackwell (four year starter) and goalie Lang (three year starter) “will anchor the defense.”

“Last year they combined for 70 goals,” Messer noted.

Below is the regular season schedule for the Windjammers.
