Camden Hills football blanks Sacopee Valley in season opener

Tue, 09/04/2018 - 10:00pm

HIRAM — Camden Hills senior Ethan Cayouette took the ball on the game's second offensive play for a 55 yard touchdown run launching the Windjammers football squad into its second year in the developmental Class E high school division with a dominating 30-0 victory over Sacopee Valley in Hiram Friday night, Aug. 31.

With Cayouette amassing 10 carries for 125 yards and three touchdowns, while adding a fourth quarter 58 yard punt return for another score, the Windjammers defense introduced itself as well lead by sophomore linebacker Will Thorn (10 total tackles, five solo and a fumble recovery) and junior linebacker Brady Hedstrom (eight total tackles, three solo, and a tackle for loss).

Possibly most impressive is seven additional players each racked up four tackles, a statistic that played out on the field while watching a swarming defense take shape.

"I am extremely proud of the way our boys played on Friday night,” second year coach Jeremy Marks stated about his team's performance. “Their effort was consistent and was crucial in our win. That being said we have a lot of things to work on and I look forward to the week of practice."

The Windjammers open a two week homestand on Saturday, Sept. 8 versus Telstar at Don Palmer Field located on the grounds of Camden Hills Regional High School. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
